bio
Lindsey (Lou) Howard’s ceramic practice examines the intersections of food, culture, and value. At the forefront of her work is food psychology and the questioning of American consumption practices. Howard creates satirized, sculptural portraits that critically examine the visual culture of food products within capitalist industries. By investigating the relationship between emotion and consumption, she explore themes of comfort, desire, anxiety, and guilt. Howard’s work pushes the boundaries of humor and horror by drawing from culinary histories, the spectacle of foodie culture and fads, and issues of sustainability within the food industrial complex. Clay as her primary artistic medium offers parallel processes, tactility, and creativity to cooking.
